Miss Kathleen Collier has been teaching in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia since 1981. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Temple University and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Chestnut Hill College. In addition to her teaching certification, Miss Collier holds a Level II certificate in the Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction for children with Dyslexia and other language based reading issues. She is certified by ALTA (Academic Language Practitioner’s Association) as a Certified Academic Language Practitioner. Miss Collier is the head of the Early Childhood Committee for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She has served on this committee since 2008.
Having taught kindergarten, first, second, and sixth grades, Miss Collier is very happy to be teaching reading to students in second through eighth grades in the Resource Room at Our Lady of Mercy School. She firmly believes the statement “If a child does not learn the way we teach, we must teach the way they learn.” This philosophy drives her desire to instruct children who require a different path in learning to read.
Miss Collier values her Catholic faith and her vocation as an educator in a Catholic school. She is firmly committed to the mission of Catholic schools, and is happy to be a member of the of the Our Lady of Mercy School community.
